Toronto Maple Leafs lose in blowout to Chicago Blackhawks 6-2

The Toronto Maple Leafs went into their game against the Blackhawks fresh off of two days rest, but it did not show.

The Leafs gave up a goal just 21 seconds into their matchup against Chicago Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena.

Chicago was all over the Leafs from the drop of the puck, and they took it to Leafs at home.

Scoring three goals in the first period alone this game was never in question for Chicago.

Goals in the first were scored by Drake Caggiula (:21), Johnathan Toews (5:32), and Brandon Sadd (11:02).

Coming off a loss just two days ago to the Calgary Flames, Toronto was unable to muster much of an effort against Chicago.

Toronto would score two in the second period on goals from William Nylander and Alex Kerfoot but it was too little too late.

William Nylander now has 21 goals on the season and 3 goals in his last three games.

Andersen struggled for the Leafs again tonight giving up 6 goals on 34 shots.

The Leafs were again without the services of two of their top defence-man, Jake Muzzin and Morgan Riley.

Toronto’s top lines all finished in the minus.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner finished with a minus 4 on the night.

With the loss the Maple Leafs have now fallen into 4th place in the Atlantic division behind Boston, Tampa Bay, and Florida.

The Leafs will now head into the all-star break on a sour note.

Toronto is certainly welcoming the all star break with open arms, especailly with the injuries on the blue line and the shaky play as of late.

Leafs will come back after the all-star break in Nashville where they will take on the Predators on Monday January 27th.

Puck drop is 8pm EST.
