Toronto Maple Leafs lose to Montreal Canadiens in overtime 2-1
The Leafs were once again unable to maintain a late lead in their loss to the Habs.
Toronto led 1-0 with less than 4 minutes remaining in the game Saturday night at the Bell Centre.
Montreals Marco Scandella scored with less than three minutes left in the third to tie the game at ones sending the game to overtime.
Ilya Kovalchuk would later break Toronto’s heart in overtime, scoring less than two minutes in.
Toronto out shot Montreal 30 to 23 in the game but had a very tough time solving the infamous Carey Price.
John Tavares was finally able to solve the net-minder early in the third period but Toronto could not keep the lead late.
The Leafs were without William Nylander for the second game in a row due to an illness.
Jack Campbell got the start again for the Leafs, as Fredrik Andersen was out again with a neck injury.
Campbell saved 27 of 29 shots on net in the loss posting a.933 save percentage.
Montreal outhit the Leafs 38-21 and dominated the Leafs in the faceoff circle winning 53% of face-offs.
The Leafs went zero for two on the power play in the game. Unable to solve Carey Price with the man advantage.
Toronto sits 29-19 on the season with the loss, and in third place in the Atlantic Divison.
With Toronto looking to move up the standings before the playoffs these close loses become that much more important.
Toronto will look to rebound Tuesday night when they take on the Arizona Coyotes at Scotiabank Arena.
