Toronto Maple Leafs take down Pittsburgh Penguins
The Maple Leafs enacted some revenge against the Penguins Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena.
Having lost 5-2 to the Penguins on Tuesday night the Leafs were able to put forth a much better effort Thursday night.
Toronto took the lead in the second on Thursday and never looked back.
The Leafs had trouble solving Matt Murray on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, but Toronto was able to open the flood gates on Thursday night.
Toronto scored three goals in quick succession in the second period.
Jake Muzzin would open the scoring for Toronto, while Nylander and Kapenen would add two more just a few minutes later.
With the goal Nylander now has 27 goals on the season.
Toronto would continue to press in the third.
Scoring just 3 minutes into the period on a goal from Zach Hyman.
Fredrik Andersen got the start for Toronto posting a shut out, saving all 24 of the shots he faced.
Andersen’s counterpart Matt Murray had a tough night.
Saving just 26 of the 30 shots he faced posting a .867 save percentage in the loss.
With the win Toronto moves into a tie for the third spot in the Atlantic Division with the Florida Panthers.
Toronto’s record on the season is now 32-22-8.
With the trade deadline fast approaching and Toronto pressing for a playoff spot a lot remains to be seen with this Leafs team.
Leafs GM Kyle Dubas has already made some moves, and with a few minor moves made already it can be expected that Toronto will be a big player at the deadline.
Toronto will now have a day off before taking on the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena.
