Toronto Maple Leafs take down Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3

The Maple Leafs came up with a big win Tuesday night in Tampa.

In a much needed win Toronto made the most of its scoring chances in the game.

With the win Toronto extends its lead in the Atlantic Division over the Florida Panthers.

Toronto now holds a four point cushion over the Panthers.

Tampa Bay opened the scoring in the first, on a goal from Nikita Kucherov at 9:46.

Toronto would respond quickly on a goal from newly re-signed defence- man Jake Muzzin.

Four minutes later John Tavares would score his first of two goals in the game.

Three goals were scored in the second period, with Pat Maroon scoring for Tampa at 11:54.

Toronto would respond quickly again on a goal from John Tavares, scoring his second of the game at 12:25 in the period.

Tavares now has 26 goals on the season for the Leafs.

Toronto would add another just a few minutes later, on a beautiful between the legs goal from William Nylander.

Nylander now has 28 goals on the season for Toronto.

Yanni Gourde would add a goal for Tampa Bay in the third period making the final score 4-3.

Frederik Andersen got the start for the Leafs and was strong in the victory. saving 26 of the 29 shots he faced posting a .896 save percentage.

Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy got the start for Tampa. Saving 19 of the 23 shots he faced posting a .826 save percentage.

Toronto will remain in Florida where they will have a important matchup against the Panthers on Thursday night.

The Leafs will look to extend their lead over the Panthers in the Atlantic at 7pm EST.
