Toronto Maple Leafs 3, Washington Capitals 4

The Toronto Maple Leafs were made to pay for starting slowly in overtime as the Washington Capitals secured a valuable 4-3 win.

Meanwhile, the winning goal was scored by Alex Ovechkin on a power play. To which Mike Babcock may have felt was a bad play.

Toronto were caught napping, and the Capitals took full advantage of their lapse in concentration.

The other goals for the Capitals were scored through a brace from John Carlsson.

Austin Matthews also had a brace in the game, while Andreas Johnsson got the third for the Leafs. Frederik Andersen was in solid form again for the Leafs as he made 30 saves, but was helpless when Toronto went a man down inside 21 seconds of overtime.

Toronto’s best chances to avoid overtime came at the end of the third period. William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen both missed the best of them.

Babcock will be hoping his side can get back to winning ways after two straight defeats when they take on the Flyers next.
