Toronto Maple Leafs 8, Carolina Hurricanes 6
The Toronto Maple Leafs can enjoy their Christmas Day celebrations after they registered a fifth consecutive win at the Scotiabank against the Carolina Hurricanes last night.
The Leafs led from the first period, before going on to claim an 8-6 win. Toronto went into the second period ahead 3-2. However, that lead was quickly overturned by a resurgent Hurricanes.
Carolina scored three in that second period to go into the third with a healthy 5-3 lead.
Toronto’s strong form came to the fore in the final period, as they outscored the Hurricanes 5-1 to cap a thoroughly entertaining night in front of their home fans.
Mitch Marner scored twice in the win, and also recorded three assists. There were also goals for John Tavares, Tyson Barrie, Auston Matthews, Jason Spezza and Pierre Engvall. William Nylander also got himself a goal.
There were assists for Zach Hyman Tavares, Barrie, Matthews, Spezza and Alexander Kerfoot.
Frederik Andersen made 40 saves in the victory. However, he was helpless in the six goals that he conceded.
Martin Necas and Erik Haula both scored a brace for the Hurricanes, while there was one apiece for Brock McGinn and Andrei Svechnikov.
Petr Mrazek made 31 saves and allowed four goals before being replaced by James Reimer. Reimer made seven saves but allowed three goals.
The Leafs face the New Jersey Devils next on Friday evening. They then face the New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild to close out 2019.
