Canada 2, USMNT 0

It has been a long time since Canada can claim to have beaten the USA in a men’s soccer match. However, that wait for a first win is now over.

It has taken nearly 35 years for Canada to do it but did it they did at BMO Field on Tuesday night.

The 2-0 win would have made shockwaves across the world, but it was utterly deserved for the Canadian side.

Alphonso Davies scored the first before Lucas Cavallini added a second later on in the game.

In a strange turn of events, there were 13 players involved in the matchday squad that wouldn’t have even been born when Canada last beat the US in 1985.

The fixture was the first of two between the sides. The countries will once again do battle later in the year when they meet in Florida, with Canada holding all the cards for their chances of progression.

The Bayern Munich winger, Davies, opened the scoring with a simple tap-in from a couple of yards out.

Cavallini doubled the lead late in the game to put the exclamation mark on just how significant this result may turn out to be for soccer in Canada.
