Toronto Blue Jays 4 Tampa Bay Rays 5

The AL leading Rays beat the Blue Jays for the second time in a row Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field.

The injury bug invaded Torontos pitching room on Sunday.

Toronto lost another starting pitcher on Sunday as starter Trent Thornton left the game with elbow inflammation after the first.

Just a day after Matt Shoemaker hit the 10 day DL with shoulder inflammation.

With the condensed season due to COVID-19 injuries to pitchers have been a problem and Toronto is feeling the pinch.

The Blue Jays pitching staff will be up against it now as multiple members are banged up.

Toronto took a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning despite losing Thronton early.

But Tampa was able to take the lead in the fifth scoring three.

The injury to Thronton as well the other pitching injuries certainly showed as Toronto had to go deep into its rotation.

Tampa starter Josh Fleming went five innings giving up four hits and two earned runs.

The Rays would use four other pitchers in relief with just one pitcher Diego Castillo giving up a run.

Gurriel Jr hit a two run homer off of Castillo in the eighth to bring the Jays within a run at 5-4.

The Rays were able to hold on late though, to take their second in a row over Toronto.

With the loss Toronto is now 13-13 on the season tied for third in the AL East.

Toronto and Tampa will clash one more time before the Jays return home to host the Red Sox.

The Jays and Rays will clash at 3:10pm EST on Monday.
