Toronto Maple Leafs lose to Carolina Hurricanes 6-3

The Maple Leafs put out a poor showing against the Hurricanes Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena.

Toronto gave up four goals in the second period allowing the Hurricanes to coast to victory.

It was an amazing night at Scotiabank arena.

Despite the loss for Toronto, David Ayers got the shock of a lifetime Saturday night.

The Maple Leafs employee was called in to play in net for Carolina when both Hurricane goalies went out with an injury.

Ayers was called into action with the Hurricanes up 5-1 in the third period.

In an amazing moment for a lifelong fan of the game Ayers stopped 7 of the 9 shots he faced.

Social media was a buzz as Ayers was put between the pipes for the Canes.

In in interview after the game Ayers said “I Knew my wife was going to blow up twitter.”

Toronto was out shot in the game 47 to 26 in the game.

Fredrik Andersen got the start for the Leafs saving 41 of 47 shots on goal posting a .872 save percentage.

Goal scorers for the Leafs were John Tavares, Alex Kerfoot, and Pierre Engvall.

The Leafs defence looked out of sorts in the game allowing Carolina to skate all over, scoring six goals in the contest.

Hurricanes goal scorers were Warren Foegele with two, Matin Necas, Sebastian Aho, Nino Niederreiter, and Lucas Wallmark.

With the loss the Leafs now sit just 2 points ahead of the Florida Panthers in the Atlantic Division.

Toronto will now head to Tampa where they will take on the Lightning on Tuesday night.
