Toronto Maple Leafs beat Winnipeg Jets 6-3
The Leafs started out hot once again as they took an early 2-0 lead in the first period of their high scoring affair with the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS centre in Winnipeg Thursday night.
Toronto has been the hottest team in the NHL since the hiring of new Head Coach Sheldon Keefe, and that continued against the Jets. The Leafs have now improved to 14-4-1 since Keefe took over after the firing of Mike Babcock.
Toronto’s talented roster shined in the contest with William Nylander scoring twice while Mitch Marner, Kaspri Kapenen, Travis Dermott, and Pierre Engvall all added a goal of their own.
The Jets top line of Laine, Connor and Scheifele was able to create three goals in the contest but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Leafs high octane offence firing on all cylinders.
Winnipegs netminder Connor Hellebuyck was pulled in the second period after giving up 5 goals on 14 shots.
Leafs goaltender Fredrick Anderson posted a .938 save percentage in the contest stopping 45 of 48 shots.
Toronto now sits just eight points behind the Boston Bruins for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
Toronto will look to continue its scoring frenzy on January 3rd as they take on captain John Tavares old team the New York Islanders on home ice at Scotiabank arena.
