Toronto FC put up a great defensive effort but couldn’t put together anything on the offensive end. If the pressure of a 1-3 aggregate goal deficit wasn’t enough, Brayan Angulo struck again to put Cruz Azul ahead early. The Ecuadorian forward was able to catch Alex Bono off his line and punish the goaltender from about 35 yards out. Toronto FC was going to need a miracle to compete with the Liga MX leaders, but their showing was admirable.

Despite the doom and gloom, TFC had a few offensive opportunities that could have made this game closer than it was. In the 18th minute of play, TFC’s Nick DeLeon was able run onto ball and convert on a defender-less opportunity. Unfortunately for the Reds, the goal was disallowed and ruled as being offside.
