Return to play still under discussions

The NHLPA and the NHL are still in discussions but a return to play will feature a 24 team playoff format.

Discussions will take place over the coming weeks to determine how that system will function.

Several details remain to be negotiated and an agreement on the format is yet to come.

The 2019-2020 season is still up in the air until the parties reach an agreement on all issues.

Under the NHL’s initial proposal, the top four seeds based on points percentage in the East and the West qualify for the post-season.

The next eight teams in each conference will compete in a best-of-five play-in series.

With the winners going on to face each conference’s top seeds.

The top four teams in the East and West would be given a bye from competing in this play-in tournament.

But would play games against each other before the playoffs begin.

A lot of details are still up in the air but this is a positive step towards finishing the NHL season.
