Toronto Maple Leafs defeat Arizona Coyotes 3-2 in overtime
The Leafs are back in the win column after an overtime victory in a matchup with the Yotes, Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena.
Toronto now has two wins in its last five games and still sits third in the Atlantic Division.
But with teams like Florida and Montreal closing the gap the Leafs are dangerously close to losing a grip on a playoff position.
Every win will count as the playoffs inch closer and tonights win was a step in the right direction for the Leafs.
Jack Campbell got the start once again for Toronto as Fredrik Andersen sat out his third straight with a neck injury.
Andersen practiced today and was seen warming up prior to the game, making his return not far away.
Arizona opened the scoring in the first on a goal from Christian Dvork at 1:04 in the period.
Toronto would later tie it up late in the first on a goal from Zach Hyman who scored at 14:23 in the 1st.
The Coyotes would take the lead 2-1 in the second period on a goal from Carl Soderberg.
The Leafs desperately pressed from that point on, peppering the Coyotes goal tender Adin Hill with 44 shots on goal.
Hill would finish the contest giving up 3 goals on 44 shots posting a .927 save percentage.
The Leafs would finally mange to tie the game up with just 1:33 remaining in the game.
Zach Hyman scored his second of the game on a beautiful feed from Leaf captain John Tavares. (Check the video below for the goal).
The Leafs would carry the momentum from the third into overtime closing out the Coyotes on a goal from Kasperi Kapanen.
Toronto will now await a matchup with the Dallas Stars Thursday at Scotibank Arena.
This is the Leafs second meeting with the Stars this season. Toronto won the pervious meeting 5-3.
