Toronto Maple Leafs lose to Anaheim Ducks 2-1
The Leafs closed out there three game road trip with another loss Friday night.
This is Toronto’s third straight loss, making the Leafs 0-3 on their western road swing.
With the Leafs in a tight playoff race coming down the stretch, this road trip could have been a great way to extend their lead over the Panthers in the Atlantic.
Toronto’s three game road trip was an opportunity and the Leafs failed to capitalize.
Inconsistency has been an issue for the young Leafs all season and it showed again Friday night in the pond.
Another Hot goaltender…
John Gibson got the start in net for Anaheim Friday night and Toronto could not get a puck passed him.
Gibson saved 26 of the 26 shots he faced, leaving the Leafs scoreless till late in the third period before leaving with an injury.
Ryan Miller would replace Gibson and give up the Leafs lone goal to William Nylander (17:00) with three minutes left in the game.
Jack Campbell got the start for the Leafs as they played the night before.
Campbell saved 26 of the 28 shots he faced giving up 2 goals.
Anaheim’s goals were scored by Adam Henrique (10:20 in the third), and Carter Rowney (3:17 in the first).
Goal Scoring Woes
Scoring was a real issue for Toronto on the road trip.
The Leafs scored just three goals in three games.
For a a team that is designed to score goals the Leafs could not produce on this road swing.
Running into three hot goaltenders certainly did not help.
Martin Jones, Johnathan Quick, and John Gibson all had Toronto’s number the past three games.
Toronto’s shooters could not crack the walls built by the three goaltenders, being shut out by Quick and Gibson, while struggling to beat Jones as well.
Toronto will now look to rally at home when they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday night.
Toronto is in desperate need of a win if they hope to hold on to their third place position in the Atlantic Division.
