New Jersey Devils 4, Toronto Maple Leafs 5

The Toronto Maple Leafs won for the sixth consecutive occasion last night as they overcome the New Jersey Devils in a gruelling match.

Toronto led after the first period but fell behind in the second. The Devils scored three, while Toronto only managed one on that period. Furthermore, that meant the Leafs entered the third down by one.

The Leafs scored the only goal in the third period to force overtime. There was no mistake for the travelling side in the additional time, as they scored the match-clinching goal to take the win.

Sheldon Keefe’s side have now won their last six, and are climbing the table at a quick rate. Toronto play again on Saturday night as they look to extend their winning run to seven.

William Nylander, John Tavares, Zach Hyman, Kasperi Kapanen and Ilya Mikheyev scored the goals for the Leafs. There were two assists apiece for Nylander and Tavares.

Auston Matthews was rested for the Leafs ahead of their game on Saturday evening. Michael Hutchinson was between the posts for the Leafs, and he made 28 saves.

Jesper Bratt, Nico Hischier, Kyle Palmieri and Nikita Gusev scored the goals for the Devils. Meanwhile, there were two assists each for Bratt, Hischier and Palmieri.

Toronto face the New York Rangers on Saturday evening, before taking on the Minnesota Wild on New Year’s Eve.
