Toronto’s bats went cold at Tropicana Field after a solid outing on Friday night.
In a pitching duel, Toronto was unable to pull out the victory.
Toronto gave up three runs in the 8th inning allowing Tampa to squeeze out the win.
Matt Shoemaker got the start for Toronto going six innings while giving up just three hits and one run.
The Jays relief pitching let them down as Sam Gaviglio gave up three runs and two hits in less than one innings work.
Ryan Yarbrough got the start for Tampa going five innings giving up four hits but no earned runs.
Toronto manufactured just eight hits in the contest, batting just .228 on the night.
The Jays now sit at 1-1 on the season, and will take on the Rays again on Sunday.
