Blue Jays start season off with a win

The Jays started the season off with a solid win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

With lots of distractions at hand a young jays squad was able to pull out the win.

No fans were in attendance at Tropicana field but the Jays still came to play.

With so much uncertainty while the world and the MLB work through the COVID-19 pandemic Toronto’s performance was admirable.

Toronto’s bats went to work early as the Jays put up three runs in both the 5th and 6th innings.

While the Jays bats went to work Toronto’s pitching was solid.

The Jays were able to limit the Rays offence thanks to a solid performance from their new ace Hyun-Jin Ryu the Jays performed.

Ryu went 4.2 innings giving up four hits and three earned runs while striking out 4.

Cavan Biggio had a big opening day at the plate driving in three runs for Toronto while going 2-5 at the plate.

Charlie Morton got the start for Tampa.

It was a tough first outing for Morton as he gave up seven hits and six earned runs in just four innings of work.

Toronto will now stay in Florida as they have two more games against the Rays before they travel to Washington to face the Nationals.

The Jays will take on the Rays Saturday at 3:10pm EST.
