Toronto Maple Leafs lose to Florida Panthers 8-4
The Toronto Maple Leafs lost their third game in a row Sunday night against the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Fresh off a four day break, Toronto went into Florida looking to get back in the win column.
After two tough loses to the Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets.
The Leafs came out flat and could not get anything going till it was too late.
Toronto was never really in the contest.
Florida scored three goals in the first period, and with momentum on their side never looked back.
Goals in the first were scored by Josh Brown (1:49) , Aleksander Barkov (3:47), and Mike Hoffman (13:39).
The second period was much the same for Toronto.
Florida scored early and often with goals from Mike Matheson (:49) and Frank Vatrano (2:25).
After Florida took a 4-0 lead in the 2nd period Toronto pulled net-minder Frederik Andersen for the second time in his last three games.
Andersen posted a .667 save percentage and finished the game with just 8 saves on 12 shots.
Toronto was unable to get on the board until Zach Hyman scored 3 minutes and 30 seconds into the second period, making the score 5-1 in favour of the home team Panthers.
There were 7 goals scored in the second period with the Panthers scoring four goals and Toronto scoring 3. Making the score at the end of the second period 7-3.
Both teams would add a goal a piece in the 3rd making the final score 8-4.
The Maple Leafs will look to end their three game losing streak Tuesday January 14th, when they take on the New Jersey Devils at Scotiabank Arena.
