Toronto Maple Leafs lose in shootout to Calgary Flames 2-1
The Maple Leafs win streak ended at one Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena.
In a hard fought game against the Calgary Flames, the two sides needed a shootout to settle the score.
Toronto had a number of chances in the game but ran into a hot goaltender in Calgary’s David Rittich.
Rittich finished the game with a .972 save percentage saving 35 of the 36 shots on net while also saving all three of Torontos shots in the shootout.
Rittich was named to his first all star game on Tuesday. Serving as a replacement for Arizona’s Darcy Kuemper.
Matthews, Marner and Spezza were the shooters selected by Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe in the shootout.
Matthew Tkachuk was the lone scorer in the shootout, beating Leaf net-minder Fredrik Andersen five hole to push the Flames to victory.
The Leafs struggled at full strength in the game only managing to score on the power play.
William Nylander scored on the power play 8:35 into the 3rd with assists going to Tavares and Barrie.
Torontos power play went one for four in the game good for 25%.
Fredrik Andersen had a bounce back game for Toronto saving 31 of 32 shots he faced finishing with a .968 save percentage.
Derek Ryan was the lone goal scorer for the Flames scoring 7:34 into the second period.
Toronto sits in third place in the Atlantic Division with the second place Lightening having two games in hand on the Leafs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will now have a day off before playing the Chicago BlackHawks on Saturday night.
