Despite another Vezina-type performance in net for the Jets goaltender, the Toronto Maple Leafs pulled out a flurry of late-game offence to seal the win. Continuing his elite level goal play from last game, Connor Hellebuyck was able to frustrate all of Toronto’s active goal scorers, particularly WIlliam Nylander. After several close calls, a highlight-reel play from John Tavares freed up Nylander for the pass that tied the game at 2.

In what was one of the fastest periods of hockey the Leafs have put together this year, the surging Ilya Mykheyev was able to put another past the Jets to take the lead in the Third. But the game wouldn’t be put away that easily. Following a perfect tip from Paul Stastyny, the Leafs went to overtime where Matthews took care of business with the NHL’s goal of the week.
