Toronto Maple Leafs take down the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1
After a disappointing road trip the Leafs returned home to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday night.
Losing all three games on their western road trip, Toronto was in desperate need of a win on Tuesday and the buds got it done.
The Leafs went down to the wire with the Lightning at Scotiabank arena but managed to pull out the victory.
This is Toronto’s second straight win over the Lightning.
Toronto took the lead twelve minutes into the first period on a goal from William Nylander.
The goal marks Nylanders 31st goal of the season.
Tampa would tie the game up in second on a goal from Ondrej Palat.
Auston Matthews would score the game winner for Toronto in the third as Matthews scored his 47th goal of the season.
The goal puts Matthews just one goal behind Alex Ovechkin and David Pastrnak for the league lead in goals scored.
Frederik Andersen got the start for Toronto in the win saving 32 of the 33 shots he faced.
Andrei Vasilevskiy manned the net for Tamp in the loss stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced posting a .944 save percentage.
The Leafs got a much needed boost against Tampa as Morgan Rielly returned to lineup from injury.
Rielly looked good in his returning playing 21 minutes on the Leafs blueline.
With the win Toronto regains its three point lead over the Florida Panthers in the Atlantic Division.
Toronto will now look to build on the win over Tampa on Thursday when they take on the Nashville Predators.
