Detroit Red Wings 3, Toronto Maple Leafs 4

The Toronto Maple Leafs are edging closer towards their pinnacle fitness levels as they played against the Detroit Red Wings in their penultimate pre-season fixture.

The NHL season is merely weeks away, but the Leafs warmed up for their opener with a 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings scored in all three regulation periods, but the Leafs had the final say by scoring in the additional period of overtime.

The Red Wings went ahead in the opening period before the Leafs turned the game around in the second. The managed to find an equaliser in the final stages of the game to force overtime.

It was a much-changed line-up for the Leafs with Hudson Elynuik, Darren Archibald, and Matt Read getting the goals to force overtime.

Michael Hutchinson made ten saves but let two goals in before being replaced by Joseph Woll. There is still work to do for the Leafs, and they will welcome back their more senior players for a rematch of this game on Saturday.

Peace,

Burke.
