Arizona Coyotes 1, Toronto Maple Leafs 3

The poor run of form for the Toronto Maple Leafs was finally brought to a halt last night as Sheldon Keefe got off to the best possible start.

It was the new coach’s first game in the NHL, and it couldn’t have gone much better.

A goal towards the end for the Arizona Coyotes dampened the spirits somewhat, but this was a much better performance to end a run of six straight defeat.

There was a sense of freedom about the team that we haven’t seen much of over recent weeks, and it was a pleasure to see.

The Leafs scored in every period for the 3-1 win, while Frederik Andersen made 30 saves. Troy Barrie, Pierre Engvall and Austin Matthews scored the goals for the Leafs.

Toronto have a few days off now before taking to the ice again on Saturday to take on the Colorado Avalanche. But, judging from this performance, there are better days ahead for the Leafs.

Peace,

Burke.
