Toronto Maple Leafs 4, Detroit Red Wings 1

The Toronto Maple Leafs resurgence continued last night as they recorded a 4-1 win over the visiting Detroit Red Wings.

It was goalless after the first period, but the Leafs came alive in the second. They took the lead in that second period, before extending their lead in the third.

The Leafs scored three times in the final period to cement their win. The Red Wings also got a goal during that final period, but they were never really in the contest.

Zach Hyman and Auston Matthews scored two apiece in the win for the Leafs. Both players also recorded assists. Meanwhile, Mitch Marner also recorded two assists in the big win.

The Leafs have now won four in a row, and this victory just continued the excellent form under Sheldon Keefe over recent weeks.

Frederik Andersen was rested for the game at the Scotiabank. Michael Hutchinson played in his place and made 30 saves in the win. However, he was unable to get his shut out.

Tyler Bertuzzi scored the Red Wings goal in the final period. Andreas Athanasiou and Robby Fabbri were credited with the assists for that goal.

Toronto are back in action one final time before Christmas Day, as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday evening.

They then face the New Jersey Red Devils, New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild to close out 2019.

Peace,

Burke.
