Toronto Maple Leafs lose to New York Rangers 5-3
It may be time to panic in Toronto.
After winning three in a row after the all-star break, the Leafs have lost two in a row.
Toronto now has a record of 28-19-7.
With the loss the Leafs have cemented themselves in the 4th spot in the Atlantic just 5 points ahead of the 5th place Canadians, and one point behind the 3rd place Panthers.
Another loss means that Toronto’s playoff hopes get a little slimmer.
Toronto struggled in their matchup with the Rangers Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.
The Leafs opened the scoring but proceeded to give up 3 goals in the first period and were never able to recover.
This is the second game in a row where the Leafs have given up 5 goals. Few teams can win giving up that many goals in a game.
Michael Hutchinson got the start for Toronto as Fredrik Andersen is day to day with a neck injury.
Hutchinson stopped 34-30 shots he faced posting a .882 save %.
Goal scores for Toronto were John Tavares and Auston Matthews had two goals on the game.
With the goal Matthews now has 150 goals in his career.
In just his 4th season in the league Matthews has played in 266 games for Toronto.
Igor Shestyorkin got the start for the Rangers in the win stopping 27 of 30 shots he faced posting a .900 save percentage.
Goal scorers for the Rangers were Paul Buchnevich, Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Filip Chytil, and Greg McKegg.
The Leafs will look to regroup Friday night at home, when they take on the Anaheim Ducks.
