Since March 20th, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been on a roll. Winning 8 of their last 9 games, the boys in blue have beaten each of their divisional rivals who currently hold a playoff spot; the Oilers, Jets, and Canadiens. During that period, the Toronto Maple Leafs have averaged 3.22 goals scored and 1.78 goals against for a goal differential of almost one and a half goals. While those aren’t stunning numbers they do reflect the Leafs’ most impressive feat this season: their consistency.
The Leafs’ only loss since Saturday, March 20th was to the Edmonton Oilers who Toronto took to overtime. Now five points ahead of the Oilers with one less game played, the Leafs are well within their reach to close the season confidently. The one team in their way, however, is the Ottawa Senators.
Despite their record, the Sens have played very well against the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2020-21 NHL season. Across their first seven contests, the Leafs only won four; making Ottawa their most challenging opponent so far this year. With Frederik Andersen expected to make his return in net, the club should look to take advantage of their opponent and build upon their lead in the NHL’s North Division.
