The Toronto Maple Leafs’ last three-game series with the Edmonton Oilers resulted in a jaw-dropping 3-0 finish. The team from Toronto limited the Albertans to just one goal across the three contests and filled their net with 13 total goals. Unfortunately, that dominance was quickly ended by a 1-7 record in their next 8 games.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, once the owners of the NHL’s best record, are looking to redeem themselves against the North division’s hottest team. In a recent interview, Leon Draisaitl of the Oilers said that they are looking to ‘send [the Leafs] a message.’ Whatever that means it could spell trouble for the boys in blue.
With the 5-0 Jack Campbell in net, the Leafs are hoping their goaltender doesn’t give away any freebees to one of the NHL’s top forward lines. Having between the club already this season, Campbell is looking to continue his streak as the team’s number one goaltending option.
The line for tonight’s game currently favours the Leafs by 160, but that could mean very little in what could be a blockbuster Saturday night game. Catch this North division showdown at 7PM EST on CBD, SN, and CityTV.
After last game’s close overtime win, the Leafs were looking to create a more consistent offensive and defensive performance in tonight’s game versus the Edmonton Oilers. Unfortunately, this game was anything but easy for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Following a strange Pierre Engvall goal, the Edmonton Oilers ripped off three spectacular goals in the second period – putting the club up 3-1 heading into the third. And while the Oilers were flying, the Leafs were missing.
Despite a great overall performance, the Leafs were bested by 39-year-old Mike Smith and the post. When the frustration looked like it was going to boil over, the Toronto Maple Leafs scored three goals – including the game winner – in less than 10 minutes.
With Jack Campbell perfect after 6 contests, the recent win streak may finally build into some serious mid-season momentum.
