The Jays are now 2-1 against Washington in the series.
Toronto and Washington remained in a scoreless draw on Wednesday heading into the 10th inning.
With runners in scoring position Washingtons right fielder Adam Eaton singled to put the Nationals up 1-0.
The Nationals next batter, designated hitter Asdrubal Cabrera proceed to hit a triple putting the Nationals up 4-0.
Toronto was unable to recover after the Nationals broke the scoreless draw.
Nate Pearson started on the mound for the Jays Wednesday making his major league debut.
On the bright side for Toronto in the loss, Pearson was impressive in his debut.
The rookie went five innings striking out five Nationals batter while giving up just two hits and no earned runs.
Toronto and Washington will face off for the last game of the four game series on Thursday.
The Jays had no answer for the Nationals pitching ace Max Scherzer on Wednesday.
Scherzer pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out ten Toronto batters while giving up just three hits.
The Jays batters went cold on Wednesday as Toronto manufactured just three hits in the contest.
Toronto and Washington will face off for the last game of the four game series on Thursday.
