Raptors guard not very optimistic but knows NBA will find a way
The 2019-2020 season has been a whirlwind for Raptors guard Fred VanVleet.
Having a break out season VanVleet was on his way to what would be a much deserved pay day in 2021.
Unfortunately the world has a funny way of working sometimes. But this is nothing new to VanVleet.
Playing four years at Wichita State, going undrafted, VanVleet is no stranger to adversity.
While the situation is not great, VanVleet knows that these circumstances are nothing to be concerned about right now.
“If our league is going to be a leader in terms of public health and player safety, you have got to follow the guidelines of the virus,” VanVleet said Wednesday, according to Lori Ewing of The Canadian Press.
VanVleet knows that the NBA will do all it can to finish out the season.
But with no timeline in place and the world in the state that it is VanVleet is not overly optimistic.
“I can definitely see it going either way, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t come back,” said VanVleet.
Still ‘steady’ Freddy will remain hopeful, but he can not help but think about what a lost season will mean for Toronto.
“I just think that it sucks when you do start to think about what would have happened, so I try to stay away from that as much as possible.”
While a lost season for VanVleet is not ideal, Freddy knows that there are much more important things going on in the world right now.
“People’s health and well being and frame of mind is a lot more important than a couple million… we are all filthy rich compared to what we came from, so I do not think anybody’s crying over it,” VanVleet said.
