Toronto Maple Leafs take down Ottawa Senators 4-2
The Leafs went into the nations capital Saturday night and dominated in a win over the Senators.
Toronto took down the Ottawa Senators 4-2 in a game that saw the Leafs dominate from the start.
Auston Matthews would open the scoring for Toronto in the first period scoring 4:11 into the period.
Matthews now has 42 goals on the season putting him in a tie for the leagues lead in goals.
Toronto would add two more goals in the second period to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
Goals in the second period were scored by Jake Muzzin and William Nylander.
Ottawa would pull net-minder Marcus Hogberg in the second after he gave up the three goals on sixteen shots.
Hogberg’s replacement Craig Anderson would gone on to save 14 of the 14 shots he faced.
The Senators would rally late in the second finally finding the net thanks to a goal from former Leaf Connor Brown.
Ottawa would add another in the third from Cody Goloubef but were unable to muster any more.
Jack Campbell got the start in net for Toronto saving 25 of the 27 shots he faced posting a .926 save percentage.
Campbell has been solid since being traded to Toronto.
Back up goaltending was something Toronto needed to address and Campbell seems to be filling that role well.
Mitch Marner would add a goal late in the third period to seal the win for Toronto.
Marner now has 15 goals on the season.
With the win Toronto now holds a four point lead over the third place Florida Panthers in the Atlantic Division.
Toronto will look to build on the win over Ottawa on Sunday night against Buffalo.
