Blue Jays give Austin Martin historic signing bonus

The Blue Jays have signed their top pick in this seasons draft.

Austin Martin was the fifth overall pick in this seasons MLB draft.

While the MLB season is still in jeopardy the Blue Jays feel they have a real winner in Martin.

Toronto showed that by signing Martin to a $7,000,825 signing bonus.( First reported by Sportsnets Hazel Mae)

This is the largest signing bonus in the franchises history.

Martin was widely considered to be the best hitter in this years draft.

Teams will always be willing to pay for players who show they can hit.

In 16 games this spring, Martin batted .377/.507/.660.

Martin is expected to be named to the Blue Jays’ 60-man player pool, where a decision on his defensive position is likely to be made.

The versatile 21-year-old was selected as a shortstop but mostly played centre field during the pandemic-shortened season.

While logging most of his work at third base last year at Vanderbilt.

Martins versatility and hitting ability make it a no brainer for Toronto when it comes to paying this hefty signing bonus.
