Nike’s futuristic new Space Hippie sneakers are made from trash.

Each of the four sneakers in the Space Hippie collection (Space Hippie 01, Space Hippie 02, etc.) is created from factory waste – everything from recycled running shoes, and T-shirt yarns, to recycled ZoomX foam, Nike Grind rubber, plastic bottles, and post-industrial waste.

The four silhouettes are available with the choice of traditional laces, laceless, or Nike’s FlyEase technology.

According to Nike’s website, the Space Hippie is “an exploratory footwear collection inspired by life on Mars—where materials are scarce and there is no resupply mission.” Created from scraps, or “space junk,” the Space Hippie, says Nike, is the product of “sustainable practices meeting radical design.”

The Space Hippie collection sees Nike ditch the double box to deliver the shoes in a single shoebox made from re-purposed material and printed on with an eco-friendly, plant-based ink.

All for models of the latest Space Hippie will be releasing at select retailers on June 11.
