Taking the lead in the sustainability department, Converse Japan recently announced a new range of shoes that have been dyed using food scraps.
A collaboration with Food Textile has resulted in a range of Chuck Taylor All Star Hi kicks that have been dyed using waste food scraps.
The Food Textile x Converse Japan Chuck Taylor All Star collection gives the shoes natural colourways, like the fuchsia “Juniper” and the grey “Purple Cabbage.” The shoes also feature recycled rubber outsoles, and insoles made from a castor oil-based polyurethane. The Ortholite Eco insoles are hailed for their technical benefits and comfort offered compared to a regular insole.
This isn’t Converse Japan’s first foray into the sustainable experimentation. The company has made sneakers from cotton stems and leaves.
The Food Textile x Converse Japan Chuck Taylor All Star Hi retails for ¥ 9,000 JPY ($84 USD) and will release in August at the Converse Japan website.
