Two quickfire goals end TFC unbeaten start to the season

Will Bruin scored twice as Seattle Sounders continued their undefeated start to the season. With a 3-2 victory over the visiting TFC on Saturday.

Also, Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei made a diving save off a strike from Alejandro Pozuelo in second-half stoppage time. As the Sounders won the rematch of the 2016 and 2017 MLS Cup finalists. The result also sent Toronto to their first defeat of the season.

Bruin was starting his second consecutive game for the injured Raul Ruidiaz and took full advantage of his chance. As he tied the scores at 1-1 in the 24th minute. Before, he gave Seattle a 2-1 lead in the 66th.

Furthermore, Seattle’s Cristian Roldan scored in the 68th minute to make it 3-1.

TFC ‘s Jozy Altidore scored twice. Meaning he has scored in all four games that he has featured in this season.

The big striker opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Pozuelo added to his two goals and four assists in three games, by delivering a beautiful ball into the TFC striker. Altidore’s header went just inside the right post, beating a helpless Frei.

The Sounders tied the game in the 24th minute on a diving header by Bruin. One of the Toronto defenders slightly deflected defender Brad Smith’s cross for Bruin from about 30 yards out. Bruin was unmarked to the edge of the 6-yard box, and he put his headed finish into the lower right side of the net. Thus leaving goalkeeper Quentin Westberg flat-footed.

Bruin broke the deadlock by taking another cross from Smith and sliding to reach the ball at the edge of the 6-yard box. Before redirecting it into the net.

After the game, Bruin told reporters: “I always want to play whenever I can and (coach Brian Schmetzer) wants to put out a squad that’s going to get three points.

“I understand that. Because it’s a business. And my job is to when I get opportunities, score. I was glad I could do that.

“It’s definitely carry over. We have a lot of the same pieces that went on that great run and just having that confidence we have of knowing we’re one of the best teams in the league.

Roldan scored two minutes later, receiving a pass from Kelvin Leerdam on the right side of the penalty box and roofing a 12-yard shot over Westberg.

Altidore and Pozuelo connected again in the 70th minute, with the forward taking a pass in the penalty area and chipping a shot from about 15 yards just inside the right post to make it 3-2. It was Altidore’s fifth goal of the season.

“Our issue is we’ve got to not allow goals. We have to make sure that we can deal with things, stay in our shape and not chase things all over the field,” Toronto coach Greg Vanney said.

“It’s frustrating because you get out on top and it’s a game you don’t want to give up goals the way we gave up goals.”

Peace,

Burke.
