MLB draft set for July

With the MLB draft less than a month away what will the Blue Jays do with their fifth overall pick?

The Blue Jays are in a position to possibly add another young talent to a budding roster.

There are very few times in baseball where you can add a high level talent to your farm system but the Blue Jays have that opportunity with the fifth pick.

The Tigers, Orioles, Mariners, and Royals will pick before Toronto so their picks will determine the Blue Jays choice.

Toronto will have lots of choices with the fifth pick.

Ranging from pitching to outfielders and positional players.

With Toronto’s glaring need on the mound its hard to imagine the Jays going in any other direction.

The perspective picks that will be available for the Jays are:

Nick Gonzales, 2B,SS New Mexico State

Bats: R Throws: R Height: 5 foot 10 Weight: 190lbs

Gonzales batted .448 with 12 home runs in just 16 games in his junior year at New Mexico State.

Gonzales may not be the best option available for Toronto as he plays the same position as Bo Bichette but could provide the Jays options with Cavan Biggios versatilitiy.

Zac Veen, OF, Spruce Creek Florida High School

Age: 18 Bats: L Throws: L Height: 6 foot 4 Weight: 190lbs

Veen is the top high school hitter eligible for the draft. While the Blue Jays do not have a need for a centre fielder Toronto has shown they will draft the top available player.

Max Meyer RHP Minnesota

Age: 21 Throws: R Height: 6 foot Weight: 185lbs

Meyer posted a 1.95 ERA with a 46:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 27.2 innings.

Emerson Hancock RHP Georgia

Age: 21 Throw: R Height: 6 foot 4 Weight: 213lbs

Hancock has some impressive stuff. His fast ball hits the gun at 94-97 mph.

Posting a 34:3 strikeout to walk ratio Hancock had a great sophomore season with Georgia before a lat injury.

Only time will tell what the Blue Jays will decide but it’s clear they have a multitude of options come draft day.
