Ottawa Redblacks 17, Toronto Argonauts 46
The Toronto Argonauts defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 46-17on Saturday night at the TD Place to win just their second game of the 2019 season.
James Wilder Jr. scored three times while Derel Walker and Rodney Smith added further touchdowns as Toronto walked away with their first road victory of the season.
Wilder Jr. finished with 42 yards on the ground consisting of eight carries to go along with 45 yards through the air on three catches. Meanwhile, Walker hauled in five passes for 90 yards. Smith caught five for 52 yards.
S.J. Green led all receivers in the contest with 130 yards. Meanwhile, Qudarius Ford also got in on the scoring for the Argos as well. He took a fumble recovery to the line.
Argos quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson threw 411 yards. This included three touchdowns and two interceptions during the victory.
Bethel-Thompson’s counterpart, Jonathon Jennings, completed 33 of 42 pass attempts over 327 yards. He contributed a touchdown and an interception during the loss. Ottawa receiver Brad Sinopoli caught the only touchdown pass for the home side. Lewis Ward went 3/4 on field goals.
The win improved Argos to 2-9. Meanwhile, the Redblacks dropped to 3-8.
The Argos have next weekend off due to a bye before they return to the field in week 15 when they take on the Calgary Stampeders in Toronto. Their opponents from the West Division will present a stern test. But the confidence built from this win for the Argos could be a turning point for their remaining seven games of the season.
